DeltaV PSCD version 13

Starting with PCSD 13 the device control module has been modified to include a DCC1 and EDC1 function blocks. The interlock functionality that was previously provided with composites has been replaced by the new DCC1 function block inherent to the new class modules. If more then 8 interlocks were needed then original device module was coupled with another class module that provided an extension for more interlocks.

The new device control module with the DCC1 block provides up to 16 configurable interlocks. The question is how do we extend the interlock functionality if more than 16 interlocks are needed.

  • There are two different ways I have seen people extend the PCSD v13 modules to give the capability of more interlocks. The first is to drop a second DCC block in the module and then wire the two DCC blocks to a Calc block that is then wired to the EDC block. The calc block is a smart selector between the outputs of the first one. In this case, you also need to extend the detail display to show the second block of conditions if they exist.

Another way I have seen done is to use the same external interlock modules (or similiar, it can be converted to a DCC based module as well) is to add a parameter for each condition that would hold a module name. In the condition, you path it to the output of an external interlock module, and then the parameter that holds the module name is used on the graphic to hide the bypass button and show a button in it's place that will open the display for the second interlock module.

Unfortunately, both of these are a custom solution and there is no way included with the current PCSD out of the box. If Emerson was configuring a project, we would take one of these approaches as a starting point for whatever solution works best for that particular customer to integrate with their existing configuration seemlessly.

Sorry, I don't have a better answer, but hopefully this helps with a direction!

Matt thank you for the two suggestions of handling this issue. I hope Emerson will provide the external interlock module functionality and corresponding detail displays in future versions of the PCSD library.
