DeltaV Ver 8.4 Build 4754

We have purchased a second hand OP station with DeltaV Ver 8.4.2 Build 5067, when we connect this station into the network (DeltaV Ver 8.4 Build 4754) will it work or will I have issues?

  • Maybe. First you are at 8.4 x4754. There is no support from Emerson for this build and you are not at the latest version, while the Op Station is at build 5067. You could take the time to review the Known and resolved issues between these two builds. That might reveal where you could see any issues.

On the other hand, as an Operator station, it runs mostly autonomously. The Comm layer should still work, and the Workstation configuration file format will be recognized.

The DeltaV Control Studio software must connect to the Pro Plus database for Online view of modules. Since this will now be a different build than the Database server, you may have an issue opening CS.exe, or not. You'll have to try it.

The recommended approach is to have all nodes at the same DeltaV Version. If you try it and have any issue, the only recourse you have is to install the same version of DeltaV on this computer that you have on all the others. In reality, you should have the latest version service pack on all nodes, but if everything works on your system, it's hard to say you have to upgrade.

Be sure to run Workstation Configuration on this computer before you connect it to the DeltaV network, or at the very least make sure that IP addresses currently set in this computer do not conflict with any existing nodes in you system. Otherwise, you could disrupt communication due to duplicate IP address. I typically set the IP address to 10.4.0.1/10.8.0.1. Then workstation configuration will set these to the database defined addresses.

Version 8. Lot's has changed in DeltaV since then....
