Have any of you tried running a DeltaV 12.3.1 Terminal Services Server on WinSer2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise?

I would like to upgrade the CPU and RAM for our R720 Terminal Services host machine but winser2008...Standard has a licensing limitation of 32GB RAM.

  • v12.3.1 Release notes list the WinServer 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise in the compatibility section but do not indicate that it has been tested on DeltaV approved servers.

what is driving the need for more RAM. there is a limit to the overall amount of runtime data one Terminal server can serve to all the sessions running Operate. Increasing RAM would not improve this throughput, if that is at issue.

If you virtualized the RDP server, you could have two VM's with 2008 R2 SP1 standard running on one physical computer. The Hyper-V host OS could have more memory while the DeltaV nodes would run supported OS.

Is the limitation you referred to for runtime data, 750 requests/sec? Is this for each configured remote client or for the entire server? I was under the impression this was for each configured client as each one requires an individual deltav license.

I've noticed that with 10 active clients my RAM usage is commonly at 80-90% with 16GB installed. Upping the RAM to 32GB brought that down a fair amount, but I am looking into adding several more clients to this machine.

With two virtualized RDP servers I believe I would still need additional RAM and possibly an additional CPU - both of which I couldupgrade but would require Enterprise.
