Hart values SV,TV,FV are good but PV is updating but shows bad status

I have a Fluenta flow meter, we are bringing in hart communication to a AI charm.  I have 4 separate modules, one for each value.  Three of them are working great using HART_SV, HART_TV & HART_FV & have good status.  The forth one that is configured to use HART_PV and is updating in the AI block to the correct value. However the status is BAD.  I have cleared all the masks for status for both the AI block & the module.  All of the AI modules are set for direct independent.  I have re-assigned the HART_PV to different modules and the error moves with it.  The vendor has to come out to set what is assigned to the one hart enabled channel, and unfortunately the current assignement in HART is correct but the 4-20mA is not.  That is why I am not just using the %field value.  Anybody have any recommendations on where to go from here to clear the status?  Thanks....JWB

  • Jason,
Have you connected a handheld communicator to the device or used DeltaV/AMS Device Manager to interrogate the field device? The Device Dashboard often has detailed alert/diagnostic info and some even have troubleshooting tips in the Device Dashboard. Expand the tree in DeltaV Explorer for the CHARM in question until to you to the device. Then right click the device. You should have options like "Overview". The functions and diagnostics available are vendor-dependent based on the Device Definition files supplied by the instrument vendor.

A DD is not available for that device (or at least we can't find one) so it is configured as a generic hart device.

Have you tried HART_FIELD_VAL instead of HART_PV? Ensure that XD_SCALE units are blank so that EngUnits are propagated up from the transmitter.

Yes, but unfortunately, the Hart_field_val is reading a flat 250 no change so it is not usable at this time. I found a solution or more like a work around. I added a parameter to my control module that is linking to an external DST reference for device/hart_errors. This allowed me to select which hart errors to ignore. This didn't fix the problem, but it got me the solution I needed to clear the module abnormal active & clear the bad_pv error. I am still perplexed as to why it only is happening to the HART_PV but not the others. Thanks for everyone's help.

Jason, It does not seems like Fluenta has done any certification from the HART foundation (www.hartcommproduct.com/.../index.php on their devices. Could they be going by a different name? Fluenta flow meter might be not following HART specification and causing this issue with their HART_PV. See if you can work with the Vendor on their device issue and get the DD. I would recommend to check the HART foundation website to see if they are approved vendor before deciding to purchase them or not.
Secondly: if you go to the HART channel level and double click on the HART Errors, you can select all these HART errors to be ignored. This might clear up the bad status.

If the HART_Field_Val is locked at 250, this means the 4-20 is locked. Could the 4-20 mA output of the transmitter be fixed, and therefore out of service? This would explain the fixed current signal as well as the status.

The device only has the capability to communicate hart via 1 channel. Unfortunately, that channel is not assigned the proper 4-20mA output from the device. The vendor has to set the outputs and ranges via their field service software. So in the interim until we can schedule that, we are bringing back all the values via the HART for the HART enabled channel. I don't think the 4-20mA for the HART enabled channel is assigned to anything on the device and that is why it is fixed at 250. So the HART_PV has that value I need, but the 4-20 is essentially useless until we get the meter re-configured. It is a FGM 160 flow meter.
