We have a workstation that is available for process engineers to access the DeltaV system. They do not have windows desktop access. We would like the engineers to be able customize and save chart and event files but don't want them to be able to overwrite any of the standard charts in the \CHARTS folder or make any other changes in configuration.
I see there is a “CHART_SAVE” function associated with the “Can Configure” Lock. I think we would need to assign “CHART_SAVE” to a custom lock so that the other configure options would not be available. Then how could I restrict the saving of charts to a “safe” place?
Let's understand your security group organization. I assume you have:
Operators who have the Control Lock.
Engineers/supervisors that have the Restricted Control Lock.
Administrators that have the Can Configure Lock.
If you want engineer/supervsors to have the ability to make charts, assign CHART_SAVE to Restricted Control Lock. If operators can save charts, assign it to Control Lock. You don't have to create a custom lock for this.
Next,
to ensure the charts in the CHARTS/lib folder cannot be edited, you can simply set the folder to Read Only in Windows and make sure the files in the folder inherit this property. Do this at the Pro-Plus, download a workstation and make sure the library files change on the workstation change to Read Only. If not, you may need to configure the files in the Pro plus individually as Read Only (instead of inheriting the attrubute). Yellow pages should propogate the attribute in this case.
