I am new to the Delta V system and have some questions. My primary question is that after reviewing the Delta V network architecture it looks like the CIOC (CHARM IO card and attached IO) can be used without the S series controller is this correct? Is the CIOC a controller that communicates directly with an application station through an ethernet switch? If so it would seem like an economical way-to-go. Please comment.
The CIOC is NOT a controller, it is just the interface between controllers and CHARMS, so to answer your question: No, you will need an SX, SD or SQ controller. See page 31 in this datasheet for requirements: www2.emersonprocess.com/.../PDS_S-series_Electronic_Marshalling.pdf
