Acronisis Back up and Recovery DeltaV

Earlier this year our OPC mirror PC communicating to Pro Plus and Data Historian crashed. We truly had no documentation or instructions on how to recover this PC, the downtime event took 2-3 days. We been re searching the different options such as: OPC redundancy, or simply Acronisis software. Anyone has experience using this software, can this be utilized for multiple PCs or even the Pro-Plus?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,

  • Hi Juan, I can assure you that the recovery process with our Backup & Recovery for DeltaV would certainly get you up and running much faster, especially if you have a recovery procedure in place, you make backups regularly and test the backups accordingly. We are happy to have a discussion about this and other cybersecurity solutions for DeltaV that you might be interested about. The B&R solution is compatible with all DeltaV nodes and backups can be configured to cover files, folders and the whole image of a machine to ensure faster recovery.
  • The move to OPC UA provides a native OPC UA Client for DeltaV that eliminates the need for this interim client PC with OPC MIrror. But the other servers need to be OPC UA compliant.

The EIOC also supports OPC UA Client in v14, which would move this integration to a non-windows, redundant interface. This eliminates the windows level maintenance requirements of an Application Station.

OPC UA also provides more secure data exchange and is firewall friendly. No DCOM.

That doesn't help your current situation, but it might be worth investigating as a path forward. If your other OPC Servers are DA, they could be enhanced with an OPC UA wrapper from Integration Objects or another trusted OPC UA product provider. Given the move away from DCOM by Microsoft, getting off OPC DA should be in your future plans.

Note that OPC UA Clients in DeltaV v14 do not use the OPC DA tag licensing. On the Workstation, the OPC UA Logical Device Tags are licensed with OPC UA Client tags (one per signal), while the OPC UA Client on the EIOC is licensed with DST (one per 100 signals). And you need to purchase the OPC UA system license that allows the use of OPC UA.
