Next Breakthrough in the Upsteam Oil & Gas Sector would be use of Laser Technology for Drilling. It would bring down the cost of Drilling a well to a very high extend. Its feasibility is still being studied as we dont have a High Precision Instrument to calculate, How much Energy would be required to Penetrate/Melt a Rock. Cleaning the Drilling fluids would also be a challenge (How much Energy would be required to do that?)
