Getting Unstuck: Tips for Defining Career Fulfillment

Check out the new LinkedIn post by Kathy Caprino (TedEx speaker of Brave Up and author of other similar titles), 10 Essential Questions To Move You Forward When You're Stuck.

A few of the questions seem painfully instrospective (or perhaps it's just me). However, I feel like #3, having researched and put it into practice before, is quite worthy of a redux:

#3: Without changing my career completely, what three small, doable steps can I take this month and next month that will help me physical and behaviorally “try on” (without risking everything) and explore three new directions that would be thrilling to me?

Have you had success "trying on" a skill or role that you were able to parlay into a career move? Share your thoughts with the group in the replies below.

  • One thing I have learned to help me organize my goals is sometimes taking the time to breakdown the big picture! For example, if I said I wanted to run a 5K but didn't know where to start, I would first make a list of the smallest possible thing to do that would help me reach my goal. In this case, it would be buying a pair of tennis shoes! The next thing on the list would be buying some running clothes, then I would make a point to run 2 days a week, then 3 days a week, etc. etc. until I reached my 5K goal. Doing something a little bit everyday makes you feel less discouraged. A resource I found that understands these mental struggles is a company called Passion Planner, which gives you the resources to mind map and reflect in on yourself. You can purchase the planner (which is super high quality), but they also give you free printouts if that is more your style. Link here: http://www.passionplanner.com/
