Preparing for a Big Presentation!?

Folks - I'm getting ready to present a lunch & learn topic on "what is business casual."  It's the latest in a series of discussions on building your personal brand.  The goal with this presentation is to start a conversation and build awareness about how our business dress can make a positive impact on our personal brand.  It could be a touchy subject if it doesn't come across right.  In prepping for the presentation, I've been pulling out references on how to give a good presentation.  Recently I ran across this information - and wanted to share it with you.  Let me know what tips & tricks you have for preparing for a big presentation.

  • Kind of in line with what the article says, but what I’ve learned is “Tell them what you’re going to tell them, then Tell them and why it’s important, and then tell them what you told them”

So – per the article, since what you want them to DO after is be more conscientious about how they dress.  Summing up bullets at the end (tell them what you told them) so the takeaway is clear. What you want them to UNDERSTAND is why it’s important for their personal brand and/or career. The how you want them to FEEL I think is positive about the many alternatives out there for looking your best – I agree it could be touchy but I think you’re awesome for this.  Let me know how it goes!

  • Very interesting topic! I always hear that people should not be judged by how they dress – and I disagree. We choose how to dress and how to look, so that’s definitively something that talks about us, and we need to pay attention to it. We have only one chance to make a great first impression. I wish I could hear your presentation……
