Electronic Marshalling

How different is this than universal inputs?

  • Are you referring to Universal IO?

UIO is touted as the same so it can be difficult to see the difference based marketing material.

Both products allow you to configure each channel to be any supported signal type. But that's about it a star being the same. UIO supports 4 signal types, AI, AO, DI, DO. All are high side powered signals, no isolated inputs, all 24VDC.

Electronic Marshalling allows you to not only software configure the channels, but also hardware configure to match filed signal/device.

There is a dedicated terminal block and distributed field power for 3 and 4 wire devices and ability to power with DC or AC Discrete devices.

And the CHARM allows you to disconnect from field wiring.

We have native IS CHARMS for hazardous areas.

CHARMS can directly support over 30 field signals with out requiring interposing relays or Signal converters.

It is far easier for me to explain how they are the same.... They are not the same!

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, Electonic Marshaling allows you to add CPU capacity to the existing IO, which eliminates ever leaving spare IO or IO space unusable. A new controller can be added to implement new control modules leaving all existing IO assigned as is.

Between what I call IO Diversity and Expendable CPU, these products are very different.
