751 Field Signal Indicator

As per manual 751 Field Signal Indicators should be wired in a parallel configuration when the 4-20 mA transmitter includes a test terminal and in a series configuration when the 4-20 mA transmitter does not contain a test terminal. Can be 751 Field Signal Indicators wired direct to DeltaV AO card?

  • The 751 is like a mA meter. It needs to in series with the 4-20mA loop to display the correct value. It is wired in parallel with the Test terminals because there is a diode in the terminal block in series with the 4-20mA output. If you put any device with less that 5 ohms across it, such as a mA meter or 751, the mA output will flow through it.
  • Yes. You can connect 751 to a DeltaV AO card. As always with 4-20 mA, make sure there is sufficient voltage to overcome the voltage drop of all devices and the cable. If you are connecting only 751 there should be no issue.
If the current loop includes a valve positioner, make sure the voltage drop across the valve positioner, 751 indicator, and other series devices, and the cable added up in total is less than the output compliance voltage of the AO card.
