I am working in a 217 MW CCP and using Ovation 3.1.3, recently i noticed that the time on Mark VI HMI and DCS Drops is different .
Q: Is it possible that i can change the time of DCS system ?
Q: What is the procedure of doing it?
Q:Are there any pitfalls i need to be aware of?
Waiting for your reply
There are multiple layers to your question. On a very general level, changing the time on the control system is outlined in Developer Studio User Guide for Ovation 3.1.3. (If you don’t currently possess the guide, all user guides can be found by eligible end-users on the Ovation Users’ Group website.)
However, if/when/how you go about changing the time can be complicated. Does your system include a GPS for time synchronization? Are your two different systems sharing data? Are there time dependencies within your system where something as simple as changing the time could impact other drops or subsystems?
These are all important considerations before making a time change on either system. Depending upon the specifics of your plant, systems, and configurations, there are definite risks or “pitfalls” here as you suggest.
Personally, I’m not able to provide additional details, but I have routed your question to a couple of our engineers. (I will share any details when/if they get back to me.) That said, your best advice is to have a direct consultation with an Emerson (Ovation) service engineer concerning your question. I am happy to arrange this for you if you would like.
