Antisurge valve

What should I look out for when evaluating my antisurge valve performance?  Is there anything else I need to check besides the stroking speed?

  • This is a very good question.

Anti-surge valves are usually one of the most critical valves in the plant, and you are correct that other than stroking speed, there would be other parameters which could affect the performance of the ASV.

You might want to take a look at this article on the web which was published in Hydrocarbon Processing.  Traditionally, full close to full open stroking time may have been the only criterion.  This article gives you a good idea of how other parameters may also affect the overall performance of your process.

    Dear Gents:
Adding to that above , valve capacity is the another major concern to meet the surge flow requirements.Generally the rated Cv of the valve should be in the range of 1.8~2.4 times of max calculated Cv depending upon the compressor vendor specifications. And Noise level can be acceptable till 95 dBA due to intermittent nature of operation.
