Intelligence in industrial valves continues to grow. This video by Emerson’s Amit Patel and Jason Maderic shares how the TopWorx predictive valve maintenance solutions help manufacturers and producers drive Digital Transformation initiatives to improve performance around production, energy, emissions, reliability, and safety.
Amit opens explaining that users today have the capability to generate large pools of data and the key is really trying to understand what the right data sets are to solve areas around safety, production, sustainability and reliability. He introduces Jason to describe major challenges these plants face including better understanding asset health and uptime, improving functional safety and reliability, and driving greater connectivity to eliminate islands and stranded diagnostics.
Jason notes that for discrete (on/off) valves, a discrete valve controller acts as the brain for process valves. The DX series signals your valve to open or close and then responds back to the control center to confirm the current position of the valve.
This integrated discrete valve control solution includes sensing and feedback in a single housing. The analytics and diagnostics delivered to a handheld communicator or PC include:
This means the controller will track the time it takes a valve to move from one position to another, track how long the valve sits in one position, and counts the number of cycles the valve has made.
Comparing this actual performance to intended performance enables alerts to be shared with the maintenance team to resolve the issue before it leads to downtime or abnormal conditions.
Dashboards provide visualization of this data. users can see these dashboards in their control room, so they don’t have to take a trip out on the floor to perform manual inspections. Not only is this a better use of their time, but it helps keep them safe and enable remote monitoring in integrated operations.
