Valve actuators are the power behind valve movement. Many technologies such as hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical energy are used to drive changes in valve position. For electric actuators, diagnostics help to assure reliable and consistent operation. They also can provide data for monitoring issues that may be developing.
Emerson’s Roman Kudinov alerted me to a YouTube playlist of quick, less than 2-minute videos that show the capabilities of diagnostics, configuration and monitoring in the DCMlink Software for electric valve actuators. DCMlink collects data from electric actuators, provides connectivity to plant level asset management systems, helps users interpret performance data, assesses health condition of devices, and optimizes maintenance activities.
The DCMlink Use Cases video shows two different approaches for using the application—local mode via wired or Bluetooth connections or remote mode via AMS Device Manager and wireless network connecting the actuators with the Smart Wireless Gateway back to the AMS application. The local connection approach is most often used for configuration and diagnostic viewing. The remote connection approach is often used for monitoring and diagnostics viewing.
