You may have seen the news released earlier this week, Emerson Introduces Easy-to-Use, Bluetooth Technology Enabled Radar Level Transmitter to Ensure Safe, Optimized Operations. This Rosemount 3408 Non-Contacting Radar Level Transmitter, using Bluetooth communications technology, simplifies commissioning, operation, and maintenance, enhancing safety and plant performance.
I caught up with Emerson’s Lovisa Rogestedt, who shared that this 80Ghz fast-sweep, Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar technology is suitable for level measurement and overfill prevention in many industries, including chemical. FMCW technology deploys a continuous echo to maximize radar signal strength and produce a more robust and reliable measurement.
Example applications for this non-contacting radar level measurement technology include storage tank filling and emptying, overfill prevention and other up to SIL 2 safety instrumented function (SIF) applications, mixing tank performance, and sump & pond level monitoring.
Lovisa highlighted some ease-of-use capabilities, including automatic and scheduled smart meter verification, continuous health monitoring, in-situ verification and proof-testing, remote accessibility to enable personnel to avoid hazardous areas, and an onboard data historian for insights into past events and alerts.
Together, these capabilities help reduce risk, eliminate uncertainty, and ensure plant and personnel safety.
