How to selectively disable controller hardware alarms?

Background: I have a SX controller residing in a controller cabinet which is always powered. The controller is connected to 2 sets of CIOCs which are residing in individual Skid cabinets (eg: A_CIOC in skid A cabinet , B_CIOC in skid B cabinet). At any one time only 1 of the skid is required to run hence to save on electricity we turn off the power to the other skid. We always get a standing alarm for SX controller saying the Skid CIOC is not communicating for the powered down skid. Is there anyway we can use any conditional alarming to remove this standing alarm?

  Somebody may be able to advise you on the new alarming features of DeltaV such as alarm shelving etc. Assuming you are not using this then the quick way to get the functionality you want is to.
  
  1. Create new area in database (example: CTRL-NOALARM).
  2. Do not assign this area to any workstations.
  3. For the controllers assign their alarms to this new area.
  4. Create a new module CTRL_XXX_MONIT for each controller in AREA_A (Or other area of your choice) and add diagnostic parameters to this module for the controllers you want to mask. example CTRL_XXX/ADVISE_ALM, CTRL_XXX/FAILED_ALM etc.
  5. You can now configure alarms in this new module and decide when, what and how those alarms will be displayed on the operator interface.
  
  Not very elegant but should work in your case.

  Thanks for the suggestion. However the problem I have is the alarm type(Module/param) (FAILED_ALM) i'm trying to mask are the same as they belonged to the same controller. Eg: CNTRLA/FAILED_ALM for A_CIOC is the same for CNTRLA/FAILED_ALM for B_CIOC. The only difference I see is the message: Assigned IO : Not communicating - with, A_CIOC or Assigned IO : Not communicating - with, B_CIOC

  In the Exploring DeltV on the containers look for the "I / O Network" then look for the CIOC that you want to disable the alarm then select it and in the right side of the Exploring DeltaV your gona see "CHARMS" and "Hardware Alarms" make a double click on "Hardware Alarms" then you will see 4 typs of alarms, in your case make other 2 click´s on FAILED_ALM and uncheck the Enable box and make a download of the CIOC
