DeltaV Proplus architecture V.09

Dear All,

Please assist on how to activate a decommissioned MD controller.

  • What do you mean by activate? The MD Controller should come up in Decommissioned Nodes folder in DeltaV Explorer. What version of DeltaV are you running?

Thanks for interest and reply, I am working on DeltaV Proplus version 9.3 and suffering of lack of documentation. While searching equipment running status source I got MD controller somehow decommissioned and the active LED started flashing. I meant re activate the controller or re commission it to reinstate the node.

Raouf, Did you decommission the node from DeltaV Explorer, and it now appears in Explorer as Decommissioned. You've confirmed the node is physically in the decommissioned state based on the LED behavior. It should also be decommissioned in the database.

As Rune notes, the controller should now (may take a couple of minutes) appear in the Decommissioned Nodes folder. You can "drag" the decommissioned node to the controller placeholder, or you can right click on the controller placeholder and select "Commission". this will bring up a dialog showing any valid decommissioned nodes you can pick from.

The controller will go through reset and the place holder will show a yellow triangle indicating it is communicating but is not configured and requires a download. Download the controller and you are back in business.

Let us know if that does not work.

Another thing to try, if you haven't already, is to remove the controller from the carrier and plug it back in.

Hi Prune, I have done already and reinstated my network but I am not able to do download and getting the messages: 1 - Error: An Attempt was made to set the content to invalid to an invalid object , 2 - Error: Unable to open simple I/O channel, Download cancelled, Appreciate your assistance.

At this point I would suggest you call our Global Support Center for help in debugging this problem.

    Best regards,

    Many thanks Prune.

A small addition to Rune's response in case it wasn't clear. The controller needs to be powered on (and a connected network-cable if possible) when removing from the 2-wide backplane. Then wait 10 seconds and re-seat the controller. This will force a hardware decommission of the controller.
The red error led should be flashing when the de-commission is successful. (Flashing active led means commissioned but no configuration.) If not, contact Emerson support as suggested. If it was de-commissioned, it should appear in explorer decommissioned nodes.
If it doesn't show up in DeltaV explorer, the pro+ may need a reboot. This is a known issue in older deltav versions. After this, the controller should appear in the list. Also make sure to check the correct firmware revision.
