How to rectify a faulty magnetrol level transmitter displaying "loop current saturated" status from the AMS

Hello good day house i currently have an issue am addressing; 64LIT002 is a Hart level transmitter attached to a vessel, the process value that was displaying on the DCS by this transmitter was 103% whicjh is different from what is obtainable in the field. so when i launched the AMS system to check for it was showing me LOOP CURRENT SATURATED. After sometime it started displaying question mark ????. what should i do next to address this fault? it is urgent pls

  • 1. Check the current on the input in DeltaV with a ammeter or communicator; if current is greater than 20 mA DC , transmitter or conditioner device (barrier/ galvanic isolator) - if exist - is in the fault state.
    2. If the input current is OK, you should connect the loop to the other spare analog input, maybe the module analog input could be damaged

I hope, it is help you

  • 103 % is the default setting in DeltaV for the Upper Limit on an Analog Input and consistent with the transmitter indication of "Loop Current Saturated". ( Assuming you are using DeltaV with AMS device manager).

You stated that the signal was different from what is obtainable in the field. What did you measure in the field and how did you measure that? Where did "it start displaying ????", on the DCS (DeltaV) or in AMS Device Manager?

If wiring is short circuited, DeltaV will detect Short Circuit fault on AI and channel status will be BAD.
Since you were able to communicate HART, and transmitter was saturated, all indication points to transmitter, or field related. If actual level was within operational range, but transmitter output was saturated, either sensor has failed or is out of calibration, or process interface is plugged, or transmitter is malfunctioning, or it has set its output to full scale.

    I'd start troubleshooting the transmitter.
