Why VIM Modules?

I am new with DeltaV system.We have already implemented system .I just go through the hardware.I found there is VIM modules which I was thinking maybe used for Simulation of IOs.

But When I saw in detailed.I found that VIM are serial Interface Module having name (C57,C59,C61,C63).So I just confused there are also serial cards Available for communication from Emerson then why third party module has been used?

  The DeltaV serial card can only communicate using the MODBUS RTU and ASCII protocols. If you need to access other protocols, you may be able to have a custom firmware revision developed for that card, but that tends to be quite expensive.
  
  It is often more cost-effective to use a VIM, which can support more than 90 different industrial Ethernet communications protocols.

  Also, you can get much more throughput from a VIM card as opposed to a serial card.

  You would have to flash the VIM to use the Simulate (rather than the Industrial Ethernet) firmware on it. You would also require the MiMiC Simulation software application from Mynah to simulate I/O signals.

  As Ray stated, the VIM or VIM2 can be used in an offline simulation environment as well as in the production system as a Modbus or Ethernet/IP interface. Simulating IO from Mimic using a simulation VIM is a great method for testing logic and IO as values will appear on the actual channel (rather than enabling simulate on blocks) without any changes to the DeltaV configuration.

  -Model is VIM4201
  -I have four module (2 for PAS + 2 for SIS )
  Now, How i can use it for simulation?
  How I have to configure them.Which software are required?

  From where I can found the firmware and how I have to change the firmware.
  And from where I get the simulation software.
  And I need separate PC for VIM module or I can install it also on Deltv station?

  All VIM firmware is purchased from MYNAH Technologies. The firmware is changed by flashing the VIM with a different .hex file using VIMNet Explorer (where the .hex file is purchased from MYNAH). I would recommend browsing www.mynah.com as there are many Knowledge Base articles that will answer your questions.
