AMS alert in DeltaV system

If you have an alert set up in AMS, can you get DeltaV to automate a pump off the alert?

  • You can use OPC to monitor the device  in AMS, the trick is finding the right parameter that indicates device alert. I've done before, to drive an alarm on DCS from a DVC connected through a PLC.

  • While technically you may be able to do this you might want to back up and think of a better way.  What is the actual functional requirement here?   If you need a regulatory control action to take place in the event of a device fault then I'd shy away from the approach you're looking at.  A better way might be to configure the device such that the status of the measurement goes bad in DeltaV when a certain fault occurs.  This way the regulatory control action in DeltaV can depend on your device status and how you ask DeltaV to treat the status.  ie.  treat uncertain as bad.   The system is designed to do this stuff without depending on AMS and an OPC connection.    AMS device manager was never intended to be a regulatory control application.
