Has anyone ever considered using DeltaV for a plant emergency alarm/notification system in lieu of other vendor's systems? Why or why not?
I have installed the personal alarm system of Alarmcare( http://www.myalarmcare.com ) last year. It can make us ensure rapid and efficient response to crisis situations, using radio signals and automatic dialling to notify the proper authorities.

Thanks so much for your response, but my specific inquiry was whether anyone had used DeltaV. I know there are numerous vendors who make various alarm systems, I’m trying to find out if anyone has used DeltaV for this and if not, why not?

Hi Julie,
Actually, we are an end-user still in the conceptual design phase about using DeltaV for an emergency alarm system application at our plant. The Emerson folks have told us that DeltaV is certified for use as a process control system, but NOT as an emergency alarm system. Not that it is incapable of serving in that capacity, it is just not certified as such. I think their statement is made from the legal standpoint.
However, we are still looking at using it as a potential solution, both as a standalone system and as a “slave” system of sorts using inputs from a certified emergency alarm system and then sending outputs to our control rooms via the DeltaV HMI interfaces.

I don´t really get the picture of what you are looking for? I´ve added a roboticmodem with (internal battery) for transportation of alarms. The modem had 8 inputs that were conncted to DV outputs.
You have to look at the level of security you requiere eg. sil 3 ?, and then you design the WHOLE system according to that. If you wan´t stand alone emergency functions you could always use SIS equipment.
We have a lot of plants that have their gasindicators, emergency showers etc. connected to the system.
