Recently vaccines have become available to help in putting the COVID-19 pandemic behind us. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies were used in the race to develop these vaccines.
In a Jersey’s Best article, Powerful AI technology is changing the way N.J. operates, for the better, Emerson’s Dennis Belanger explains how AI is used:
…as a monitoring tool to understand the condition of eggs that are often used to create vaccines to combat the influenza virus…
For the vaccines created from the eggs, Dennis notes that the:
…egg harvester technology looks around-the-clock at all of the thousands of data points for patterns and trends as the eggs incubate over a period of time… giving advanced warning for potential equipment problems and allowing for adjustments to prevent failure and loss of production.
The savings from identifying and solving issues before they lead to lost production can be in the millions of dollars. Dennis elaborates on how these savings can be achieved.
The AI tools allow them to predict months ahead of time failure patterns of a batch that’s being processed and make the necessary adjustments to prevent a system breakdown, which could result — based on strict FDA laws — in the whole batch getting tossed out.
He shares how the use of AI technology has changed from traditional production methods.
“Before, they were just taking a chance on starting a batch and seeing if they completed… Now, it’s starting to be used to really get a very comprehensive look at the performance of manufacturing and applications.”
