Plantweb Insight wins 2018 Engineers’ Choice Award from Control Engineering

Control Engineering 2018 Engineer' Choice AwardsThe first few months of a new year are “award season” with names like Golden Globes, Oscars, Grammys and others in the news. A variety of industrial publications covering various aspects of process manufacturing also release awards in the first quarter, and 2018 has already been big for Emerson and Plantweb Insight with multiple awards. On February 8, Control Engineering added to the list when it announced the winners of its 2018 Engineers’ Choice Awards. Plantweb Insight is a winner of the Software – Diagnostics category.

Control Engineering makes the point that its voting process is very selective and ensures that only people who are subscribers and responsible for relevant types of products are allowed to cast ballots.

We solicit entries for the 2018 competition via a combination of e-mail newsletters and direct outreach. Once all nominations are received, eligibility is then assessed, Finalists are selected, and the ballot is created. Invitations to vote/submit ballots are sent to Control Engineering electronic mailing lists, based on Control Engineering print subscription demographics and include subscribers from our opt-in e-mail lists who indicated that they are responsible for or influence control/automation technology purchases. Votes are cast online via CFE Media's New Products for Engineers platform.

All that to say, this award program tries to engage qualified voters—people who understand what they’re voting for and understand its value. Here’s how the ballot listed Plantweb Insight:

Emerson Automation Solutions releases Plantweb Insight, a family of operational excellence applications for monitoring the health of steam traps, pumps, heat exchangers and many other plant assets. Leveraging Emerson’s Pervasive Sensing strategies, Plantweb Insight strategically interprets plant data to provide personnel with actionable information. The intuitive, browser-based user interface enables quicker and more informed decisions to ensure reliability, improve safety and reduce energy use. The pre-built analytics and domain expertise embedded in the applications minimize required configuration, allowing the flexible software to be easily integrated with existing infrastructure. Abnormal situations and predictive diagnostics are presented to personnel in real-time, eliminating the need for manual calculations or periodic data collection. This allows users to address multiple pain points with a low-cost, easy-to-install and fully scalable solution—independent of the control system.

Emerson Plantweb Insight ApplicationsThat last line says a lot: “This allows users to address multiple pain points with a low-cost, easy-to-install and fully scalable solution—independent of the control system.” It certainly sounds like an award winner.
