In this 26:14 workshop video, Emerson's Erik Mathiason and Roger Pihlaja present the case study of how senior plant/process engineer Jim Raiders and plant personnel at Eka Chemical in Howard, Wisconsin USA were able to use pressure transmitter with advanced diagnostic technology to determine when their pumps go into cavitation.
The use of this information allowed Eka to introduce a variable speed drive feedback controlled by the diagnostic signal. This control loop reduced the amount of time their pumps spent in cavitation, extended the life of the pumps, and potentially reduced their process water usage.
