I just saw a great presentation by Stuart Chisholm and Clark Esler on the Premier Oil Solan Project.  On the project, Emerson acted as the MEAC - Main Electrical and Automation Contractor for a normally unmanned platform .

I was particularly impressed to see how Emerson architected an intelligent solution to deal with all of the challenges (normally unmanned, harsh environment, limited power, remote operations, etc) faced on the platform. 

The solution included an Intergrated CCTV and Radar system that could help detrmine proximity of vessels and also detect oil spills
