Can't access local OPC server on Application Station - server init failed hr = 80070005

Hi,

I've installed DeltaV Application Station 11.3.1 onto a server running Windows 2008 Standard.  I've tried connecting to the OPC server using OPCWatchIt.exe; however, it doesn't work.  I keep getting the error "Server init failed hr = 80070005".  I'm using my DeltaV administrator account and it doesn't work.

I've tried the same approach on my ProPlus station. When I try to access the ProPlus OPC Server by running OPCWatchIt.exe on the ProPlus, this works just fine.

Any ideas why local OPC access on the ProPlus works, but local OPC access on the App Server doesn't?

Thanks.

  • Questions:

    1. Can you use OPCWatchit from the ProPlus to access the OPC Server on the App station?

    2. Vice versa?  Can you use OpcWatchit on the App station to acces the ProPlus OPC Server?

When connecting an OPC client to a DeltaV OPC Server from the Interactive Windows Logon, the DeltaV OPC server checks to see if the user is logged in to the DeltaV Application.  In other words you will not be able to use a local OPC client to a DeltaV OPC server *interactively* without first logging into DeltaV.  If the Local OPC client is run as a service, (or if the OPC client is remote), this is not a concern.

By the way, 80070005 is the ubiqitous error code for "Acess Denied".

Hi Yousset.  Thank you for your feedback.

For questions 1. and 2., I don't have any problems.  I can access each OPC server remotely without any problems.

I see you have several OPC threads, but all related.  Based on your other threads, can I assume you are no longer getting the 80070005  error when connecting an OPC client to the local OPC server on the app station?

If remote access of the OPC client to the OPC server works, then the failure of the local OPC client would indicate that the interactive user is not logged into DeltaV when the client connects to the OPC server.

I ended up getting this error (on the ProPlus) after I started to shut down the database server from Database Administration but I aborted it. Basically, I clicked shut down, then it replied that there are connections still open. Instead of closing the connections and proceeding with the shutdown, I decided to continue working in control studio for a while. OPCWatchit gave this error until I rebooted the proplus.
