DeltaV Alarm Help License Subscription

I am being told that we must go to a subscription based license to add Alarm Help to our DeltaV systems.

This seems odd that we would have to add a subscription based license to a system that is perpetually licensed. I prefer not to have a mixed licensed system.

I understand that it will lower the upfront capital cost the first year, but after that I have to explain why this license is going on our expense budget forever. Not to mention, after a few years you have paid much more than you would for a perpetual license.

Also, I really do not want the hassle of keeping track of a license on a system that I normally do not have to.

It would be great if Emerson would offer a perpetual and a subscription option, so the customer has a choice.

I am curious what everyone else's thoughts on this are?

  • Emerson does not offer both perpetual and subscription options for DeltaV Alarm Help on newer software versions (v15 LTS and above) because the company is transitioning value-added offerings to a subscription-only model to provide greater flexibility, ongoing support, and faster feature updates. This aligns with industry norms and offers benefits such as reduced upfront investment, flexible scope and term lengths, embedded support, and more frequent application enhancements. Perpetual licenses remain available for older versions (v11–v14), but are not offered for newer releases.
