Emerson Women in STEM

What, Who & Why: Emerson's Women in STEM blog

The Women in STEM blog provides a voice for Emerson women and men across all Emerson businesses and geographic regions. We publish bi-weekly on Tuesday's though the Emerson Automation Solutions Online Customer Community (but also maintain a short link for marketing and branding purposes: http://emrsn.co/WomenInSTEM.  Our mission (and communications objective) is to provide a large, public audience (both non-Emerson and Emerson readers) with actionable personal and professional development advice and showcase the professional journeys (including successes and challenges) of our colleagues, Emerson Impact Partners and customers. 
 
As of April 1, 2019, we have published 80+ blogs that have received over 100,000 unique visits! We promote every blog through the Emerson Automation Solution and Commercial and Residential social media channels with an audience of over 500,000 followers!
WHY: The external business objective of our blog is to continue to build Emerson's reputation as an employer of choice for Women in STEM and others who view diversity and inclusion as critical factors to success for innovation.
Internally, the blog allows us to learn more about our colleagues, fosters personal and professional enrichment and growth and helps us build a strong community for Women in STEM across the globe.

Who can I invite to guest blog for Women in STEM?

Anyone in the Emerson Network is invited to contribute to Emerson's public-facing blog - this includes employees, Emerson Impact Partners and customers. On occasion, we include blogs from family members and prolific leaders from the community who speak on related topics. If you're uncertain whether a choice would be appropriate please contact [email protected] or [email protected]. 

What topics are appropriate for the blog?

Emerson has a diverse community of women and men with varied stories, skills and passions. In order to ensure we are providing for a broad audience (included those who are unfamiliar with Emerson), please suggest topics of the following nature. 
  • Personal development advice
  • Professional development tips
  • Career journeys (with anecdotes and advice)
  • Overcoming adversity/gender bias in a STEM field or workplace
  • Mentoring (including STEM education initiatives)
  • Work-Life Balance
  • Other topics of interest to aspiring engineers and career professionals.
We encourage creativity and occasionally make acceptations to this rule. Please contact [email protected] or [email protected], if you'd like to introduce a topic or idea.

What are the blog requirements?

Author Draft:
  • @1,000+ words in length
  • Include a minimum of 2 supporting learning resources  (eg: articles, statistics, books or TED Talks)
  • Include 2 medium-high resolution images (horizontal vs. vertical for social media promotion). Editors can always assist in finding stock photos.
  • Author must complete their Emerson Exchange 365 profile before publication included a photo and LinkedIn profile (if available). *See guide to completing your EE365 profile in the resources section.
