DeltaV ACN

Hello Ladies and Gents,

I have read that the DeltaV network is designed to use a star topology. Is it correct to say that all primary switches should be connected to a single switch, preferably to the switch where the primary connection of the controllers are connected to? same goes for the secondary network? Another question is about the uplink port of the switches, does this function as a trunk or does it function just like an ordinary uplink port of a hub? Would it drastically affect the ACN if you daisy chain all the primary switches together via the uplink port? (same scenario for the secondary network)

Thanks in advance!

Dominic

  • The DeltaV network is designed to be laid out in a star topology. If you have the latest v13 release of DeltaV, then you could use the newly released All-Gigabit DeltaV Smart Switch(VE6053) as a central switch for a true star topology implementation.
Otherwise, you can even daisy-chain switches via the uplink ports. Make sure that the network doesn't get looped back to form a ring kind of layout.
The uplinks, as the name suggests are just uplink ports, forwarding packets from one switch to another.

There is a very well-written KBA that describes the considerations that you need to take into account while designing your DeltaV Control Network. Talk to your Emerson LBP, and they could share some of that information with you.
