The Power Advisory Diagnostic on Rosemount 3051S and 3051 pressure transmitters is a tool available to ensure the integrity of your loop wiring.
Overvoltage events are transient or permanent surges in voltage above circuit design limits that can cause significant damage to electrical systems and equipment. Overvoltage protection serves to protect valuable assets from such events. Without proper protection, the user will know when an overvoltage event has occurred because the transmitter will stop working.
In contrast, the Power Advisory Diagnostic alerts users to hidden, unwanted changes in the electrical loop. These loop changes include leakage current (ex. water in the housing or wiring issues) or increased resistance (ex. unstable power supply or corroded terminals). These issues can still give the appearance of a properly functioning transmitter when it is actually producing unreliable measurements that can lead to unsafe operating conditions. When tripped, an alert suggests corrective actions that allow users to identify and remedy potential issues.
