I received these questions from an 8th grade student. I sent him a response but wanted to share his questions with the alternative energy community for additional insights. Here are the questions:
How do alternative fuels affect transportation? How does climate affect alternative fuels? Last, what is alternative fuels' affect on the environment?

This is a very good topic, I'd like to share you some points from my perspective:
1. What is the alternative fuels ? LPG(Liquid Petroluem Gas), CNG(Compressed Natural Gas), LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and H2 etc...
2. What is most effective Alternative fuels ? CNG and LNG, Could be Bio-Diesel in Europe and H2 in Japan.
3. Why?
a. The most component is the Methane (C1) and much less Greenhouse Gas Emissions which big affect the enviromrnt.
b. most primary enegy reserved in world Vs Crude Oil
4. How does alternative fuels affect transportation?
a. Short term - There are 15M Natiral Gas Vehicles (NGV) only at this moment which is not for the pravite yet...
b. Long Term - 8%-10% GAAP on NGV WW - Good for the enviroment and low cost fuels Vs Gasloine and Diesel.
