Cyber Security within the Water and Wastewater Industries

A coworker bylined this article titled Weathering the Perfect Storm in the January/February 2012 issue of World Water. The article explains how “advanced automation technologies can help reduce operational costs, improve efficiency, comply with regulations, and protect against cyber attacks.”

I found the section on security to be interesting. We see a lot of consideration given to security by the power generation industry; however, their industry has NERC CIP standards as a powerful motivator. I’m curious how the water/wastewater treatment industries approach cyber security, and the level of importance they assign to it. Hopefully people in our water community can share their experiences here.
