using Fieldbus without utilizing AMS device manager in DeltaV

Hi all

i was wondering is it possible to make connection through ''Fielbus'' without utilizing ''AMS device manager'' in ''DeltaV''?

or another question is that is it possible to make connection through ''HART'' without utilizing ''AMS device manager'' in ''DeltaV''?

best regards

  • I don’t think it’s possible, but I wonder why you want to do with other tools than integrated one . It’s the same think to configure Deltav without control studio

  • From many years of DeltaV experience, it is imperative for AMS to be installed on a DeltaV network, especially on the EWS, even if it is not licensed. This is to help with the Fieldbus commissioning and downloading. All the best
  • No. DeltaV needs AMS Device Manager to work with fieldbus devices.

Yes. DeltaV can work with 4-20 mA/HART devices even without AMS Device Manager. First, for the real-time process monitoring and control DeltaV uses the real-time 4-20 mA signal, not HART. Second, DeltaV can access some of the auxiliary variables in HART devices using HART although that is not real-time so not for process automation. Also, when people say “HART” they really mean 4-20 mA/HART where 4-20 mA is for automation and HART is for device management.

Either way, whether fieldbus or 4-20 mA/HART, you should deploy together with AMS Device Manager so you get all the control valve, flow meter, and analyzer diagnostics. And you get help ensuring the devices are configured correctly so they work as intended.
