How is wireless working for you?

How well is your Smart Wireless system working?  What went well in the installation?  What didn't work as well?

  • Lara,

I think we need to extend WPN solution regarding "wireless" operators, "wireless" I/O solution and "wireless" communication chanels solution.

Present solution count with "separated" wireless networks for oparators and I/O ( according my e-mail disxussion with EUR sales support team ). I am sorry, but everytime build separated networks can be for our customers expesive. We need one WPN on the plant and possibility to connect all to DeltaV / Plant LAN thru this network - necessary to find a ways how to integrate all together thru security standards. I am missing in our portfolio now any solution how to connect i.e. profibus / serial communication links thru WPN solution ( for remote locations ). I am sure there is necessary a little bit thinking regarding implementation ( i.e. different implementation regarding PLC / RIO solution ).

If we will be sucessful next year we can have opportunity to "test" CHARMs over WPN ( we will see next year ). I hope this is a way how to drive market thru solution and develop solution from which can benefit customer ( in case of plant modernisation and no infrastructure ).

I'm not sure I completely understand.  The gateway can be connected via Modbus RTU/ Modbus  TCP or OPC.   An Ethernet IP version is underway which should help with the PLC implementation you mention.  Most control systems have an ethernet card of some type which can connect to a WIFI system, aka WPN.  The WPN is separate from the field network (WirelessHART instrumentation) for a variety of reasons including power and bandwidth, as well as ease of administration.

If you are just connecting Delta V systems (bridging), this can also be done easily and just involves WIFI connections.

    Lara,

you are on the side of implementation to DeltaV. There is not an issue. We need solution to connect i.e. PLC on remote side with RS232 link ( Modbus RTU ) thru wireless to DeltaV system ( directly without any convertors ). Our competitors has solution already in place:
