Updating Alarm Priorities using OPCwatchit or Excel addin (cannot upload change)

If you use the DeltaV Excel add-in or the OPCWatchit utility to do an online change to Alarm Priority, this change is not showing up in the UPLOAD list from the controller.

However, if we go to the same module in the ONLINE mode and change the alarm priority, the upload list flags it as a candidate to update the PRO+ database.

Is there a hotfix to this issue ?

Note: We are using Deltav ver14

  • Do you see the change logged in Process History View? You'll see it when doing it from Control Studio. What about the other scenarios?
  • Writes coming into DeltaV through OPC are not recorded to either Event Chronicle or the upload list. Originally they were and the events were filling up both systems and crashing DeltaV services and/or Event Chronicle (called Event Journal at the time). Many uses of OPC are to transfer frequently changing data sometimes in the thousands of parameters which would quickly fill up everything. I think it was somewhere in v3.x that OPC writes stopped being logged. Don't expect a hotfix to re-enable it.

There is a registry option to turn this on (not sure if it is still there but I suspect it is). See the info in this thread.

But just keep in mind it will log all of them and fill the log up quickly depending on what is being done thru OPC.

  • In reply to Scott Thompson:

Journaling OPC writes by default was optionally disabled in v5.3.2. You can still turn it back on, just be aware the .imp files in the powerup directory will record every OPC write and its an all or nothing. No OPC writes journaled, or all. Your choice since v5.3.2:

    "journalDisabled"

    1. Set the value to "TRUE" to disable Journal "writes". (This is the default.)

Set the value to "FALSE" to enable "writes" to the Journal.

KBA AUS1-198-020121142431, might be the last time it was documented. I happen to remember it as I was the one that troubleshot and filed the incident about the .imp files growing to the point of depleting hard drive space.
  • Hi, in v14 in the Upload utility there was added a button labeled "Read Online Value", which is designed to read the current online value of changed parameters that can be uploaded, then that value will be uploaded if selected.
Note - the selection for Read Online Value applies to all displayed and selected parameters.
What parameter did you use to change the alarm priority? The ability to upload that parameter may not be provided, though in v14 the ability to control what is able to be uploaded has been added; I can look for that parameter to see what's possible.
