Spring is a great time to take a fresh look at your goals. Are you happy with the progress you’re making? Or perhaps there is a layer of dust covering your goals? Don’t be too hard on yourself if your goals are not getting attention – it’s more common than not. So why is that?
Goals are chosen to help you achieve something that is (or seems) important to you. If you’re struggling to make progress, maybe something has changed that adjusts your interests or priority? Goals should be treated as an evergreen document – and you should feel free to adjust goals regularly. But maybe it’s not the goal, maybe you’re just stuck getting started? Here is an activity that can help you get unstuck. Try this “Swap & Sort Exercise” using Post-It® Notes:
Brainstorm - Fill as many Post-It® Notes as possible with "Solutions that move you forward" and "Obstacles that will hold you back."
Sort - Put Solutions in one pile, Obstacles in another
Assess - Sort each pile into those ideas with High Benefit / Low Benefit and High Difficulty / Low Difficulty
Prioritize - Pick 3-5 ideas to work on
Action Plan - For each idea write a short action plan with Why, What, When and How
