These four questions are related of course and I’d like to pose this question to the user community. When do you begin to plan a modernization project? Do you:
Even if one of these scenarios is consciously chosen or forced upon you, would it hurt to start the planning process regardless?
It is very common to hear that resources cannot be spared to accomplish these steps. At Emerson we have a dedicated group of consultants to help you through this process.
Interested to hear your thoughts on this topic.

"Good article Gordon Lawther. I was recently involved in a consultancy engagement where Emerson had performed an obsolescence study and produced a report which covered all of their assets. Our customer used that document to help them understand which assets to modernise first. We then helped them develop strategies to understand how best to execute a modernisation project. It was a really interesting collaborative engagement."
