Filter Alarm and Events based on DeltaV User Group Access

Is there a way to filter events data from either the Ejournal or DVHisDB based on DeltaV user group access or key assignment?

Currently we have a prefix that’s used to identify user role but it’s a historical setup from the days of NT before AD and want to phase it out. Our MES colleagues use this prefix to identify certain events for batch reporting purposes. Just wondering if anyone knows a way to identify users based on DeltaV User group or key assignment or if there is a table in either Ejournal or DVHisDB that would help.

For greater context, the purpose is to identify interventions by Engineers, currently identified by ENG_Username but looking to remove the "ENG_" prefix and using another identifier to filter these events.

  • The short answer is no. User and Workstation tell you exactly who, but user security groupings are not. A user could be in multiple groups.

This could be a UDEP suggestion. My suggestion for the enhancement would be to bring this extra security information in the Event Chronical SQL database so that User and Group assignments are published to the Event Historian and then PHV is able to filter Users, based on group assignment.

Currently, User security group assignments don't seem to be available at run time. The USERT table downloaded to workstations defines the security Locks a user is assigned, whether explicitly or through a group membership. The group assigned security locks are not visible in the runtime download files.

DeltaV User Manager has an export function that will export a table of User/Group/Scope, but for some reason, this list is empty on my system, even though I have users assigned to groups.

Check the User manager Export files and if the Users and Groups export is empty, you should file a call with the GSC to log this. That won't help you immediately as it takes time for an issue like this to role through and it would likely not warrant a hotfix.

My only option to you would be to use Excel (or other tool) and link it via ODBC to the Ejournal and run your query from there. You can than add your Group/User assignments in a worksheet and run the query where User is a list of Users you can define from your Group/User information.

Note that in Live, with professional license option, you can run such SQL queries. You would need to provide an array of Group/User assignments that you would need to maintain. The v15 table object can then return the Ejournal events matching the query based on the User names that are part of a group.

Thanks for the quick reply Andre. I will pass this info along.

The Export of Groups and Users does include the User/group/scope info. I thouht it might be because I only had <sitewide> assignments but I checked again and this is example of the output:

    user group scope
    OPERATOR Operate INLET_SEP
    OPERATOR SIS Operate <Sitewide>

It lists all the Groups a User is assigned to along with the scope (Area or Sitewide). If you assigned the group Operate to multiple Areas, you would see a line for each Area (group assignment)
