Emerson’s Sam Tanyous presented PACSystems: PLC, PACEdge and Movicon lifecycle services at the 2022 Emerson Exchange conference. Here is her presentation abstract:
Are you tasked with minimizing unscheduled shutdown, operational cost, limiting risk while increasing safety and achieving greater plant profitability? Are you struggling with retiring workforce, fewer specialist and more complex processes? This session will give an update on existing lifecycle services for all Machine Automation Solutions products (PLCs, Industrial PCs, Machine Edition..) and an overview of what is coming in the pipeline that will help you achieve your goals.
Sam opened by showing the PACSystems control architectures, including micro, compact, high performance, and high availability. How can you maximize the return on your investment? Value can be created in faster time to production, higher sustained production with less variability, fewer unplanned incidents, shorter recovery times from incidents, and finally, shorter planned shutdowns/turnarounds/outages.
There is an extensive lifecycle support program for PACSystems. It starts with primary/expert support. The services include PAC software updates, expert technical support, emergency phone support, knowledge base articles, online technical documentation, and online getting started education.
Educational services include face-to-face classroom training, virtual classroom training, onsite training, and blended, self-paced, cloud-hosted systems with full-length courses.
Resident Engineer is a service to enable an Emerson onsite expert for engineering, system startup & maintenance support.
The Emergency Onsite Service provides control system experts with local language onsite assistance. It includes immediate after-hours availability with priority response.
Scheduled preventative maintenance provides a standard methodology to plan, execute and report on these maintenance activities. Standardized tools are used for consistency, and trained and certified specialists perform these services.
Other services include spare parts management, extended hardware warranties, system upgrades, cybersecurity assessment, and site evaluation.
The system upgrade service is a standardized, proven, and global process using tools and best practices with certified engineers. They perform a thorough KBA analysis to help you get the most out of your system.
The cybersecurity assessment provides a basic assessment to summarize the active cyber protections. This summary recommends prioritized next steps with specific remediation suggestions for the areas analyzed.
Site evaluation evaluates spare parts management, alarms, cybersecurity, system lifecycle & health, data management, and power & grounding.
