Dynapar Incremental Encoder Integration Into DeltaV

I am needing to integrate (3) incremental encoders into a DeltaV system.  Has anybody pulled this off that could offer some insight how they connected to the DeltaV I/O?  The output of the encoders in question is 7272 Differential Line Driver, 5-26V.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Mike is this encoder connected to a servo motor? If so you may need the encoder to connect to a servo drive instead of DeltaV IO. Unless the encoder is mounted to something moving very slowly I'm not sure the DeltaV IO has a fast enough capture rate to properly use that feedback. In my experience encoders should connect to the servo drive that would either be in torque, velocity, or position control modes. The servo drive would connect to the DeltaV IO for setpoint signals and provide the feedback value to DeltaV. Servo drives would be either analog or digital, so the connections to DeltaV could be using 4-20mA IO or else digital communications for setpoint and feedback.

Hello. Thank you for your reply. No, these are not connecting to a servo motor. These are used solely for positioning on a stacker machine. What I believe I need is some sort of quadrature serial interface. Even with the PK scan rates, this is still too high speed of an operation for this DCS.
