Strengthening the Security Posture at America’s Largest Gas-fired Cogeneration Plant

As cyber threats continue to intensify and become more sophisticated in nature, the need for comprehensive ICS cybersecurity solutions at power plants continues to grow. This need was reinforced when Version 6 of NERC’s Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards went into effect on July 1, 2016.

The demands for creating a comprehensive cybersecurity program and meeting the corresponding obligations can be challenging; especially at power plants with small staffs. And as many plants have multiple DCS, SCADA, and other applicable systems, the demands on resources can quickly grow and get complicated.

The attached case study outlines how Midland Cogeneration Venture addressed NERC CIP v6 and established a formal security program with a mix of Emerson security solutions and cybersecurity services.
