EDS Mobile – One of the first native applications for Apple devices for the power generation industry

I thought some of you may be interested in a new product we recently announced – EDS Mobile. A fairly detailed description can be found in the press release; however, EDS Mobile is one of the power generation industry’s first native applications for users of Apple’s iPhone and iPad devices.

It is intended to give users key performance indicators by selecting from an iconic data menu or drilling down via a plant view. Since it is built with Apple’s iOS, the EDS Mobile technology utilizes standard Apple input gestures such as swipe, tap, drag, zoom and automatic screen orientation.

We demonstrated this product at Power-Gen International 2011. Sometime in the near future, we expect to have a simple demonstration that's accessible to a broader audience. If there’s interest, I will be sure to give you an update.

  • Greg,

interesting news... I hope that also different platforms will follow up this trends. Could you tell me from where you read the data ( application )?

    Thanks for additional information.

    Radek

That is a good question, because I did not provide a lot of details in my post. The app gets the data from EDS data gateways connected to the control system(s). The gateways retrieve and synchronize information from multiple sources including existing EDS servers and other data sources on the control system. Depending on the power plant or enterprise, there could be multiple EDS servers and/or multiple control systems.

  • In reply to Greg Schirm:

Does EDS gateway ( server ) have any local interface? I mean any web interface to see the same data like on the mobile platform. I follow final solution whether is "multiplatform" based or pure focused on mobility side ( whether is possible to use notebbooks / netbooks ). Maybe is good idea to develop any kid of promo video:-).

  • In reply to Radomir Pistek:

Yes. Actually, the original product (before EDS Mobile) was the EDS. We have many power generation customers that already have EDS servers running on their control system. As you suggest, the EDS server has its own local interface, and it can also be configured as a customized portal or web service.
