Driving Greater Collaboration and Automation Performance

Today and tomorrow are the 87th NAMUR annual general meeting in Neuss, Germany. NAMUR (User Association of Automation Technology in Process Industries) is:

…an international user association of automation technology and digitalization in process industries… Shaping automation in the process industry from a user’s perspective.

Emerson is sponsoring the conference and supports many of their user-driven initiatives such as Module Type Package (MTP). MTP:

…provides a framework for standardized equipment data models and description language to streamline interoperability.

MTP enables integration of DCS and PLC-based systems more easily. It reduces time and cost to integrate distributed process and reliability assets and equipment, helps accelerate time to market, simplifies fulfillment of individualized customer requirements, and improves scalability and flexibility. As MTP continues to evolve, organizations will benefit from Emerson’s foundation of interoperability between the DeltaVTm distributed control system, PACSystemsTm programmable logic controllers, and AMS machinery health prediction devices.

Innovations in Automation magazine v20I wanted to highlight a series of LinkedIn posts published before the NAMUR conference that discussed many aspects of the importance of this integration, and its role in Emerson’s Boundless Automation℠ vision.

Each of these articles explores how automation technology is fundamentally transforming to enable greater collaboration to drive safer, more efficient, and more reliable operations.
