Connectivity from Wireless Transmitters to Controllers via EthernetIP

For manufacturers in the discrete and hybrid manufacturing industries, packaging is an important part of their processes. For reliable and flexible operations connecting the information from the various packaging lines is important.

Sensors with online diagnostics play a key role and wireless sensors has enabled easier availability to measurements to increase reliability and operational performance. At the PACK EXPO 2017 conference in Las Vegas, the Emerson team is showing wireless measurements to provide packaging line temperature, density, and gas void fraction measurements over Ethernet/IP to programmable logic controllers.

The Micro Motion Smart Meter Verification (SMV) automatic diagnostic software verifies Coriolis meter performance and integrity without having to stop operations. SMV provides confirmation of meter cleanliness with no interpretation required so that operators can have confidence in their density measurements as well as fill accuracy to remain on spec.

Coriolis technology is based on the principles of motion mechanics. As fluid moves through a vibrating tube it is forced to accelerate as it moves toward the point of peak-amplitude vibration. Conversely, decelerating fluid moves away from the point of peak amplitude as it exits the tube. The result is a twisting reaction of the flow tube during flowing conditions as it traverses each vibration cycle.

When the process fluid enters the sensor, it is split. During operation, a drive coil stimulates the tubes to oscillate in opposition at the natural resonant frequency. As the tubes oscillate, the voltage generated from each pickoff creates a sine wave. This indicates the motion of one tube relative to the other. The time delay between the two sine waves is called Delta-T, which is directly proportional to the mass flow rate.
