Unable to open DeltaV Explorer

When attempting to open Explorer I received this pop-up:

This then stopped occurring and I am now able to open Explorer and modules as normal, but I see this application under Active Database Connections:

I am unable to identify what that is. I have closed all of the TS connections and refreshed and that one is still connected.

  • DbImpExpClient is an executable provided by DeltaV to perform database exports and/or Imports. Are you performing daily exports via the Database Administration group or via custom scripts? Looks like this might be an export task that did not complete and left the connection hanging.

The first think I would do is export the database from Explorer. With a known good, latest export secured, you try stuff.

I would check windows Task manager to confirm if DBImpExpClient is running or not. If not, disconnect this connection from the dialog you show. Sometimes connections remain in the database because a client application did not close property (station was rebooted/lost power etc.) The disconnect connection is provided as a way to clean up orphaned connections that can no longer disconnect themselves.

Killing a process in Task Manager will also leave a connection on the database. Again, you can clean that up in Database Connections.

If the DBImpExpClient is still running in the Process list, I would contact the GSC and learn more about this. is it a known issue? Is it safe to kill the task and disconnect it from the database? Having the most current export is important if you end up having to rebuild the database. I doubt it gets to that, but having good backups and data exports is step 1 to trouble shooting the database.
