Allen Bradley E-300 Device net configuration issues

Hello,

I've recently run into an issue while configuring a couple of Allen Bradley E300 overloads through Device Net and Delta V. After successfully establishing communication with the devices, I noticed that the Input Assembly was set to 0 by default.

When I attempted to modify Parameter 0290 (Input Assembly) to match the placeholder in our control system, the change failed. The overload responded with the following error:

"The device's current mode/state prohibits the execution of the requested service."

To troubleshoot, I performed a factory reset and placed the overload into Admin Mode, but I'm still unable to make any changes to the Input Assembly. It remains locked at the default value of 131, regardless of the assembly number I enter.

In previous installations, we were able to configure a "dummy" placeholder with matching input and output assembly sizes. This allowed us to establish communication with the device, after which we could successfully change the assembly parameters. However, that approach doesn't seem to be working in this case.

Has anyone encountered this behavior before or know what might be preventing the parameter change?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

  • Not sure if you can check the E300 Module Definition in Studio 5000, but there is a parameter called "Configured by" - This Controller vs. External Means. That may be giving you this message.

Unfortunately, we don't have the Studio 5000 software, we've always configured the E-300 through explorer.

We successfully implemented the changes; however, the only viable method to modify the input assembly involved directly connecting the E300 DNET handheld communicator to the DeviceNet segment, performing the configuration adjustments on-site, and executing a manual upload to synchronize the updated parameters.
