Connect hardware to DeltaV Simulate station

We have a DeltaV simulate server that we use for testing. We want to set up an Ethernet IP network on our actual DCS, and to help with that we wanted to connect our EIOC to our simulate server first. This way we can configure the devices we want to connect and generally test the network before implementing for real. When we connect our EIOC however it says we can't download it because the server is running DeltaV Simulate. Is there any way to test hardware with a simulate licence or is this functionality just impossible?

  • Unfortunately, when EIOC licensing changed in v14, it broke something in the simulate systems where licensing is not required. V14 added Device licenses and the Physical EIOC is somehow expecting a license that is not present in the simulation system. Or at least, that's the way I understand it. The fix to this was to make a note in the Product Data Sheet that the Physical EIOC is not supported on simulation or development systems and a virtual EIOC must be used.

The EIOC will work on v13 simulation systems, but not v14 and up. Your only option is to deploy a virtual EIOC. You can deploy this as a VMware VM using VMWorkstation 15 or higher. If you have virtualized your Simulation system on HyperV with DeltaV virtual Studio, they you already have the templates and such to create the EIOC. VMWorkstation does not require (or support) DVS so that would be the lowest cost point to add a VM EIOC to your system.

If you purchased the EIOC and cannot make use of it, you can contact your local sales office.
