DeltaV licenses for EIOCs: VE4103 & VE4109S001

Dear Community,

Our company bought the following Licenses: VE4103 & VE4109S001

{Model Number: VE4103
Bundle Name: MODBUS TCP Interface for Ethernet connected I/O (EIOC); Quantity: 4

Model Number: VE4109S001
Bundle Name: Ethernet connected I/O (EIOC and PK): 1 Physical Devices; Quantity: 4}

1. Obviously VE4103 is to be assigned to an EIOC that talks to Electronic Devices that support Modbus TCP; and the EIOC can talk to 04 Devices (Qty=4)

2. What about the VE4109S001 license? Is also to be assigned to another EIOC? 1 Physical Devices meaning? and the Qty =4 ? can we talk to Devices that support Ethernet/IP?

I need more details about the 2nd license VE4109S001.

  • An EIOC or PK can only have one protocol license assigned to it. Thus, the VE4103 License. You would need one of these for each PK or EIOC, depending on what Protocol you want to talk. The VE4109S001 is a physical device license, and you need one of these for each physical device you want to talk too.

So, if you have a EIOC or PK that is talking Modbus TCP/IP to four (4) end devices you would need one (1) VE4103 and four (4) VE4109S001 license.

If you have two PK or EIOC and one needs to talk Modbus TCP/IP and one needs to talk Ethernet/IP you would need one (1) each of VE4103 and VE4105. Then you would need the VE4109 license to match the total number of physical devices you are talking to.

VE4103 Modbus TCP/IP Interface for Ethernet I/O Card
VE4104 EtherNet/IP Control Tag Integration for Ethernet connected I/O
    VE4105 EtherNet/IP Interface for Ethernet I/O Card
    VE4106 OPC-UA client for Ethernet connected I/O
VE4107 IEC 61850 Interface for Ethernet I/O Card

    VE4109S001 Ethernet connected I/O (EIOC and PK): 1 Physical Device Note that the VE4109 also come in packs of 5 - VE4109S005, 10 - VE4109S010, 20 - VE4109S020, 50 - VE4109S050

Thanks Mr RickV for your prompt reply.
    Appreciate your help.

In a nutshell if I have understood correctly;  both licenses needs to be assigned to the same EIOC (in my case I'll not use a PK Controller) and I can talk only Modbus TCP to my 4 end devices. Is that correct?

  • In reply to Alfacesar2025:

Almost correct. The physical device licenses are a system level license and don't need to get assigned directly to an EIOC, but I believe are just assigned to the Pro+. So a 10 pack license can be split across multiple EIOC's or PK's.
  • In reply to Matt Forbis:

Also, the protocol license is not required on a PK controller. Only the physical device licenses are consumed by the PK. The EIOC requires the Protocol license to be assigned to the EIOC and it will consume Physical device licenses for each PDT configured. Note that if you are integrating a device that requires more bandwidth, such as a PLC, you may need to configure multiple PDT's to achieve the desired data exchange rate. For simple devices like motors, Drives, analyzers etc, one PDT per device will suffice.

In addition to the physical device license, each configured LDT will consume an IO DST license based on the data type and direction of the LDT.
